Guy-Raymond castors are available with various braking systems, to suit many different types of equipment and furniture. The choice will be determined by the intended purpose of the unit and the circumstances in which it is required to move.
Free Wheeling: These castors do as their name suggests! Allowing for constant movement, loaded and unloaded. Available in all of our castor product ranges from 30mm to 125mm wheel diameter.
Foot Brake (FB): This option has a brake pedal which when pushed down applies a wheel brake to both wheels of the twin wheel castor to prevent the castor from rolling. The brake is released by raising the pedal.
Suitable applications include office furniture, display units, equipment stands and mobile units.
Available in product ranges GRX30, GRX38, GR50, GRX50, GRX65 (18mm and 28mm tower widths) and C-LINE. (Larger castor ranges GRX75, GRX100 and GRX125 are available with a total lock brake – see below).
Total Lock (TL): Available in product ranges GRX75, GRX100 and GRX125. This option has a braking system that locks the swivel and wheels of the castor at the same time. This gives more rigidity to the unit to which the castors are fitted when the total locking system is activated by pushing the pedal downwards. The total lock braking system is released by moving the pedal in the opposite direction. This system is commonly used on table systems, medical equipment, diagnostic equipment and shop and display units.
The total lock system dramatically reduces the problem of unexpected swivel movement associated with simple wheel brake castors. TL castors give a far more rigid feel to the locked unit.
The elegant design of the GRX brake pedal enables the brake to be released from above, making the castor more user friendly and protecting shoes by eliminating the need to push the pedal up from underneath.
Brake Unloaded (BU): This option allows for freedom of movement for people working on office chairs but applies the brake automatically when they leave the chair. This system helps reduce
the likelihood of the unoccupied chair accidentally rolling away.
The castors are available both in hard wheel and soft tyre options; hard wheels are recommended for carpeted floors and soft tyres for stone, vinyl or wooden flooring. Available in GR50, GRX50, GRX65 and C-LINE.
Brake Loaded (BL): Available in the GR50, this option best suits products which require a brake to be applied automatically under load, such as high seating for those performing tasks that require precision and concentration facilitated by reduction of movement of the chair or unit when occupied. The castors are available both in hard wheel and soft tyre options; hard wheels are recommended for carpeted floors and soft tyres for stone, vinyl or wooden flooring.
